May 23rd - June 6th, 2015

Choose your own date range between May 23rd and June 6th.  Stay as long or as little as you want!

Be aware that weather plays a huge factor in the icefields and you may not be able to fly out or return on the day you intend to.  You will have to be prepared to wait several days if poor weather persists. 2 consecutive non-fly days is common, and in 2013 we had a rare 4 days of consecutive non-fly days.

About the Icefield Discovery Camp

The Icefield Discovery Camp is situated in the heart of the St. Elias Mountains, between the Kaskawulsh, Logan and Hubbard Glaciers.  Mt. Logan is the dominant massif to the south; Augusta, Steele and Lucania complete the panorama and Mt. Queen Mary is immediately accessible from the camp.  The location of the camp was chosen for its crevasse free zone, relative ease of aircraft access, variety of surrounding terrain, and great view of the north face of Mt. Logan.

The camp has never ending views of the tallest mountain in Canada - Mount Logan.

Icefield Discovery opened the glacier camp in 1998, to provide a comfortable base for all who want to explore and experience the largest non-polar icefield in the world.  The main 16' x 32', heated Weather Haven, houses washing, cooking and dining facilities.  The surrounding tents provide sleeping quarters for up to 14 people.

Activities from the Camp

For the inexperienced, the area immediately around the camp is crevasse-free, so you are free to snowshoe or ski around. There are nunataks in the area that are great day trips on snowshoes or skis.

Participants with crevasse rescue skills, avalanche rescue skills, and appropriate gear can climb Mount Queen Mary, located right near the camp.

The slopes on the Gnurdlehorn (or as we call it, Queen Mary's Poodle) offer good backcountry skiing, so you can get some turns in and ski right back to camp.

If you don't feel like hiking, climbing, or skiing, you can just wander around camp and soak up the views.

Backcountry skiing on the gentle slopes of the Gnurdelhorn.

Climbing up to the top of the Gnurdelhorn, with a view of Mount Logan.
Exploring and ski touring across the crevasse-free glacier. As always, Mount Logan never leaves your site.
Relaxing and soaking up the sun after a day's excursion.
