ACC White Pass Backcountry Ski – Intermediate/Advanced

Date: Sunday March 22, 2015
Location: White Pass (Log Cabin)
Leaders: Charles Stuart & Jen Eakins

A group of 9 ACC members met in a whiteout at the White Pass Summit on Sunday morning, having planned to ski Mount Cleveland. After some group discussion, we agreed to head to Log Cabin, which was sitting in perfect bluebird conditions and greeted us with sunny, warm, spring-like weather. Spirits were high as we stripped down to base layers and skinned up. Snow conditions were not ideal, so the group split in two near the top, based on comfort and skill levels, with half the group continuing on to summit, where they noted Cleveland was still in whiteout conditions. On their way down, the summit party regrouped with the suntan party, and the entire group enjoyed taking turns making turns down a series of long gullies and through the trees. Aside from a knee injury near the bottom, it was a great day skiing in warm sunshine with incredible mountain views.
