Remembering Monty Alford

The Yukon has lost one of its most pioneering mountaineers.  Monty Alford passed away recently at the age of 90 years.

Monty climbed extensively in the St. Elias mountains, as well as other lesser-known mountains throughout the Yukon.  Most articles in the Canadian Alpine Journal that are about climbing a mountain in the Yukon reference Monty's name in some way.

Only a month ago, on July 25th, ACC Yukon was fortunate enough to have Monty present his experience with the Yukon Alpine Centennial Expedition (1967) to a crowd of ACC members, excited to listen to Monty's stories on the history of mountaineering in the Yukon.
