Upcoming Winter Trips

Winter is on its way.  And that means the skiing, winter camping, and ice climbing season is coming!

ACC Yukon has a bunch of trips planned for this winter, so keep an eye on our calendar

For more information and to register for any of these trips, please visit:

Here's what's in store so far:
Date: Saturday, Nov. 16
Location: Fraser Lake area (White Pass)
Winter’s here and you have the gear but no one to go with? Come out and refine your gear systems early in the season. By ski (AT, Tele, X country) or snowshoe we’ll make our way up to Fraser lake and find a suitable place to make camp. We can work on winter camping skills and share what we know as a group. Build your first quincy or snow cave. Figure out how much fuel it takes to boil a liter of water. Find out your -18 bag is really only good to -12. You’ll need to be self sufficient on this one but we’ll have a mandatory pre trip meeting to make sure everyone is good to go. Friendly dogs welcome, you’re responsible for their comfort in the cold.

Ice Climbing at Equinox Ice Towers
Date: Every Thursday evening, 6-9pm (Starts when the Ice Towers are complete - runs all winter)
Location: Takhini Hot Springs
Top rope ice climbing on a variety of routes, easy to advanced. Each week an Alpine Club member workshops an ice climbing skill ~ winter belaying, what's in your pack, sharpening tools, abalakov anchors etc. (check calendar for details). There is a warm cabin for gearing up, lights for night climbing and a bbq. Maybe a run on the zipline too. Equipment is available for rent. A climbing instructor is available for belaying and basic instruction, passing a belay test is required before you take a turn holding the rope. Cost: for ACC members $10, gear rental $5/item, $10/package (30% discount).
Date: Saturday, Dec. 7
Location: Summit Creek Hill (White Pass)
This is a trip for beginners to get out early so you can feel like a pro by seasons end. We’ll be looking for low avi risk areas to ski. Getting in some turns and having a good time all around. AST 1 strongly recommended but not required. We’ll be choosing the better weather day on the weekend. Temperature cut off is -18c. Some back country experience is good. We’ll be skiing to the lowest skill level. Optional supper in Skagway depending on how the day goes.
Date: Saturday Dec. 14 - Sunday Dec. 15
Location: Auriol Trail (Kluane Park)
Love playing in the backcountry but short on companions? This trip is a “choose your own adventure” with friends. We’ll be heading down the Auriol trail in the morning and setting up a base camp at the base of the mountains. From here everyone can branch off to enjoy the outdoors their own way (safely of course). Nordic ski, snow shoe, AT or tele are all doable (with an eye to avi issues). This is your time to explore the snowy playground we live in and come back to a camp with new friends and stories. We’ll spend the night as a group and play again in the morning before making for home.
Date: TBA (Dec. 14/15 or 21/22, options for January dates as well)
Location: Mount Sima ski hill
Want to improve those telemark turns before heading out to the backcountry this season? Come get some great tips and enjoy a day out at the ski hill!
Date: Dec. 26
Location: Mt. Mac
Description: This is a casual in-town skiing event - pack a light snack, hot drink, and warm layer to enjoy a leisurely Boxing Day skiing. No avalanche terrain. Track skis or light touring (metal edges) skis. No skins required.
