Ice Climbing at Equinox Ice Towers at Takhini Hot Springs

Trip: Ice Climbing at Equinox Ice Towers at Takhini Hot Springs
 
Description: Top rope ice climbing on a variety of routes, easy to advanced.  Each week an Alpine Club member workshops an ice climbing skill ~ winter belaying, what's in your pack, sharpening tools, abalakov anchors etc. (check calendar for details). There is a warm cabin for gearing up, lights for night climbing and a bbq.  Maybe a run on the zipline too.  Equipment is available for rent. A climbing instructor is available for belaying and basic instruction, passing a belay test is required before you take a turn holding the rope.

Location: Takhini Hot Springs is 1/2 hr. from downtown Whitehorse, head north on Klondike Hwy. Turn left at Takhini Gas Station (Hotsprings Rd.), in 10km, stop at 90' ice tower.
 
Time: November 21 - April 10. Drop in between 6pm - 9pm, meet at site, arrange carpooling ahead of time. 

Equipment: 
Winter Adventure Clothing:
- Base Layer = next to skin = long underwear top and bottom
- Mid Layer = insulation = wool or fleece pants & sweater
- Outer Layer = wind protection = shell jacket i.e. nylon, gortex, etc.
- Head = warm hat, No pom-poms.
- Hands = light gloves for climbing, belaying and fiddling, over-mitts for between climbs
- Feet = Thick wool or synthetic socks
- Down Jacket / Parka to keep warm between climbs
- Boots = Ice climbing boots, mountaineering boots, hiking boots, ski or snowboard boots.
Available or bring your own ~ boots, harness, belay hardware, helmet, crampons, ice tools (axes)
 
Skill Level:  Beginner - Advanced, You should be able to belay or bring someone to belay you.  Basic instruction is available, this is a great venue to meet people and share skills. 
 
Cost: for ACC members $10, gear rental $5/item, $10/package (30% discount)
